Dear Colleague, 

The National Student Survey (NSS) is an important way for students coming towards the end of their undergraduate courses to tell the world about their time at Sussex. The survey is managed by the Office for Students (OfS), the independent regulator of higher education in England. 

As a University, we promote the NSS to eligible students throughout the survey period, which runs from 23 January up to 30 April 2023. Thank you to everyone who is helping to promote the survey and contribute to the positive response rates. 

At this point in the campaign, we wanted to take the opportunity to re-share some helpful resources and to remind you to familiarise yourself with the NSS 2023 Good Practice Guide, provided by Ipsos MORI. 

Please can you read through the Good Practice Guide as soon as possible. It provides helpful advice, best practice and guidelines on the ways we can encourage students to take part. 

While we are allowed to promote the NSS, we are not allowed to try to influence how students respond – this is known as inappropriate influence. The guide provides more information on this. 

You should be able to access this file on Box using your usual Sussex login details. 

How can students complete the NSS?    

Eligible students can fill in the NSS online at www.thestudentsurvey.com at any time up to 30 April 2023.

What resources are available for staff?   

The Student Communications team has produced a shared folder of resources on Box (accessible via your Sussex login details). These resources include the NSS Good Practice Guide, a communications plan, digital campaign assets and slides from the online staff briefing session, that took place on 12 January.
