First-Generation Scholars work shadowing programme

Our First-Generation Scholars scheme supports students who are the first in their families to go to university and/or are from low-income households. As part of this scheme, we ask employers to offer a work shadowing opportunity.

Why get involved

Many First-Generation Scholars do not have access to the social networks and contacts that allow them to explore future careers. That’s why we run a work shadowing programme as part of our First-Generation Scholars scheme.

The work shadowing experience is designed to provide First-Generation Scholars students with the opportunity to spend two days with your organisation.

This is an unpaid opportunity and no financial commitment is required from your organisation. We will directly reimburse students’ travel expenses if needed.

For more information on work shadowing, see our work shadowing guidance

How to submit an opportunity

To offer a work shadowing opportunity please complete and submit our application form.

If you are not already registered you will need to register on CareerHub.

We will contact you to let you know when your opportunity is being advertised. The opportunity will be promoted to our students, and we will forward suitable applications to you.

The student was fantastic. Very enthusiastic, had clearly done their homework, and came with plenty of questions about the company and what we do. They showed a keen interest in not only watching what we do but completing tasks on their own.” Work-shadowing provider
