International

The University of Sussex has a strong history of internationalism, with an international perspective to its academic activities and its outlook. This is reflected in the faculty and student composition of the School of Law, Politics and Sociology, and in the courses and research interests within the School. The University attracts staff and students to its campus from over 120 different countries across the world, and over 25 per cent of the student population of the School are scholars from outside the UK.

As a research institution the University of Sussex has a robust international reputation and is rated within the top 20 institutions in the world. International students at Sussex also rate us highly; the International Student Barometer survey 2008 voted the University of Sussex the best ‘Place to Be’ in England for the third year in a row.

The School of Law Politics and Sociology extends a warm welcome to international students, colleagues and visitors.

International Foundation Year

The International Foundation Year (IFY) is designed for students from outside the EU who have completed high school but who do not yet meet all the University's entry requirements for degree-level study. Satisfactory completion of our foundation year will guarantee your progression to our undergraduate degree courses.

The IFY is a tailor-made three-term course of academic subjects, study skills and English language training that provides an intensive, direct path to degree study. Based in our dedicated International Study Centre on campus, the course prepares you for undergraduate study in law, politics and sociology (see the law and social studies pathway).

You apply to do the course and select the actual degree during your Foundation Year. Provided you obtain the required grades at the end of your year, you will progress to your Sussex degree course in the following October.

For information on academic and English language requirements and how to apply, refer to the International Foundation Year website.
