Bio-organic Chemistry (F1007)

The aim of this module is to describe the unifying biosynthetic principles which underlay the diverse structures of natural products and to show the relevance for the primary structures of proteins to their shape and to the catalytic properties of enzymes.
You are introduced to a basic set of chemical transformations applied in the chemical synthesis of the major classes of biomolecules such as nucleic acids,
peptides and glycans.

Contact hours and workload
This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 29 hours of contact time and about 121 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology.
