The high profile event was over-subscribed and attended by policy-makers, religious representatives, civil society organisations and experts.
Fabio Petito, Professor of Religion and International Affairs within the Department of International Relations (School of Global Studies), co-organised and spoke at the high-profile panel event, 'Interfaith Dialogue in an Age of Division: The continuing relevance of Nostra Aetate' hosted by the Dialogue Society at the House of Lords on 21 October. Professor Petito spoke about the origin of Nostra Aetate based on his article “Interreligious Dialogue through the lens of International Relations” published by Pro Dialogo, the journal of the Holy See Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue, in 2025.
The event was over-subscribed and attended by policy-makers, religious representatives, civil society organisations and experts - and also by International Relations students Tania Ijaz and Yuliia Zvonarova. The pair commented:
“We would both like to thank Professor Petito for bringing this opportunity to our attention. It was a wonderful event held in an inspiring setting, and we were grateful to be witness such a meaningful discussion.
“It was particularly inspiring to witness the significance of interreligious dialogue and the growing recognition of religion’s potential to serve as a powerful force for reconciliation and unity in an age of division!”
The keynote speaker was HE Archbishop Miguel Maury Buendía who was named prefect of the Dicastery for the Eastern Churches in November 2022 and appointed Apostolic Nuncio to the Court of St. James’s in April 2023.
