Religion and Impossibility
Friday 20 November 17:30 until 19:00
Brighton & Hove : Brighton Unitarian Church, New Road, Brighton, BN1 1UF
Speaker: Genia Schönbaumsfeld, Daniel Molto, Jakub Kowalewski, James Croft
Part of the series: Sussex Philosophy Society
Religious belief makes significant demands of the believer. Religious doctrines encompass claims that are extraordinary, miraculous, and perhaps even impossible. At the same time, some believers hold that some deeply held convictions, including about morality or freedom, can only be accounted for by the truth of religion. A feature of religion, perhaps, is that it offers to make the impossible possible. In this session, several philosophers look at different aspects of the relationship between theology, the miraculous, logic and the impossible.
The Philosophy Department at the University of Sussex invites you to join us for a free workshop on religion and impossibility, funded by The Royal Institute of Philosophy.
Join us to hear from and discuss this important topic with our speakers:
- Genia Schnbaumsfeld (Professor of Philosophy, University of Southampton)
- Daniel Molto (Assistant Professor of Philosophy, University of Sussex)
- Jakub Kowalewski (Senior Laudato Si' Research Fellow, St. Mary's University)
- James Croft (Humanist Chaplain, University of Sussex)
Tickets are free, but must be booked here: https://www.ticketsource.com/philosophy-department-university-of-sussex/religion-and-impossibility/e-rvdvyrp
