Growing in Higher Education: Eco-philosophies of Teaching Food Systems, Climate Change and Biodiversity
Wednesday 2 December 16:00 until 18:00
University of Sussex Campus : Sussex School for Progressive Futures room, Library Ground Floor
Speaker: Dr Perpetua Kirby and colleagues in US, UK and Denmark
Part of the series: CIE Research Cafe
This seminar engages with eco-philosophies to examine how teaching through a garden can deepen student understanding of food systems, climate change, biodiversity loss and planetary justice, whilst fostering environmental competencies, civic engagement and political action. It brings those teaching in campus gardens within the USA, UK and Denmark, from across the fields of education, international development, life sciences, agroecology and business studies. The invitation is to reimagine how campuses might respond to pressing social and ecological challenges through teaching rooted in place, community and a more-than-human responsiveness.
