Predicting cancer, personalising care. Can computer simulations find the right treatment?
Thursday 19 November 18:00 until 20:00
University of Sussex Campus : Chowen Lecture Theatre, Medical Teaching Building
Speaker: Professor Simon Mitchell
Part of the series: BSMS Inaugural Lecture series
No two people are the same, and neither are any two cancers.
Simon Mitchell, Professor in Cancer Systems Biology at Brighton and Sussex Medical School, reveals how virtual tumours can help find the right treatment for each cancer. He’ll show how computer simulation can predict how cancer might progress, or which treatment might work best for each person. Using the same combination of maths and computing we use to predict the weather and the stock market, he’ll show how computer simulation is paving the way for a new era of personalised medicine.
Whether you're a healthcare professional, patient, student or simply curious about how medicine is evolving, this lecture offers a fascinating insight into a fast-moving field.
All are welcome at this free event. If you would like to attend, please register online no later than 48 hours prior to the event. Doors open at 6pm and the lecture will start at 6:30pm in the Chowen Lecture Theatre, Medical Teaching Building, University of Sussex campus.
