Call for Papers: Annual Meeting of the UK Network of Development Economists
December 5-6, 2026, University of Sussex, UK.

Policy Panel: Changing Global Order and their Implications on Low- and Middle-Income Countries
The UK Network of Development Economists will be holding their 2nd annual meeting at the University of Sussex in December 5-6, 2026. The network celebrates UK’s rich tradition in supporting socioeconomic development around the world through cutting edge research in development economics. It brings together development economists from within the UK and overseas. The network is also well connected with the European Development Economics Group. University of Sussex is a proud host of the 2026 meeting.
We invite researchers and practitioners to submit extended abstracts of 500 words or full papers (preferred) in a wide range of topics in development economics.
Submissions on the following topics are particularly welcome:
- New methods and innovations in the theory and empirics of development economics.
- Geopolitical shocks and their implications on economic development in low income countries.
- Alternate models of development and development policy in low income countries.
We also encourage submissions from PhD students and early career researchers based in the UK.

The following registration fee would apply on accepted papers to cover venue hire and refreshment costs.
- Standard Faculty Registration Fee: £150
- Student Registration: £50
- Conference dinner (optional): £65
Key dates:
- Abstract or full paper (preferred) submission: 30 September 2026, 23:59 GMT.
- Notification of decisions: 15 October 2026.
- Conference registration opens on 16 October 2026.
- Conference registration closes on 15 November 2026.
- The presenting author for each submission will need to have registered for the conference by 29 October 2026, 23:59 GMT.
The conference will be held from Saturday 5th December to Sunday 6th December 2026.
