Over the past three years, students on the Sports Law Clinic have supported client enquiries in collaboration with practising specialists, worked with Sussex SU along with Sussex Sport looking at insurance cover for student leaders, developed a Code of Conduct for student coaches, and have produced content for UK Coaching aimed at practising sports coaches. This legal content - all drawn up by Sports Law Clinic students - addresses some of the pressing legal matters relating to coaching, cognisant of the fact that many coaches are volunteers.
Chris Chapman, Learning and Education Manager for UK Coaching, when sharing the finalised website, commended the students involved on their achievements in this engagement. Their work can be seen here: Sport and the Law | UK Coaching - UK Coaching
In a further success for the Clinic students, a bespoke program they put together for Student Activators is due to be launched as a pilot in September 2026:
Sports Law Clinic academic Lead, Dr Neil Partington, elaborated on the successes of the past three years student cohorts, in this first-of-its-kind service:
“...Sports Law Clinic students have once again produced outstanding resources for practising coaches, at all levels and in all sports, that help clarify, educate and reassure coaches about their legal duties and responsibilities. In collaboration with UK Coaching, these materials are freely available to coaches throughout the UK and beyond. At a time when coaches are increasingly faced with legal challenges, the SLC students - generously and expertly supported by Chris Chapman at UK Coaching and Mike Townley of Moore Law - have excelled when not only producing coach education articles, but also when advising individual clients. I am absolutely delighted and super-proud of what the Sports Law Clinic has achieved over the last 3 years.”
