Untapped Potential: Can EDI Improve Science?
Wednesday 29 July 13:00 until 15:00
University of Sussex Campus : Jubilee Building, 144 Lecture Theatre
A growing body of evidence suggests that diverse and inclusive research environments can strengthen scientific creativity, improve problem-solving, and enhance research outcomes. But how can we translate these benefits into our everyday research practice?
Join colleagues from across disciplines for a thought-provoking event examining the relationship between equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and research excellence. Together, we'll explore how inclusive cultures can help unlock talent, challenge bias, and support innovation in science.
Featuring Guest Speakers
- Professor Mahendra Patel – University of Oxford
- Associate Professor Melissa Creary – University of Michigan
- Dr Elizabeth Rendon-Morales – University of Sussex
The panel will be chaired by Dr Samira Bouyagoub (FoSEM) and Dr Neil Singh (BSMS).
Audience: Everyone is welcome to attend. Whether you are a researcher, clinician, student, professional services colleague, leader or manager, this event offers an opportunity to reflect on creating research environments where everyone can contribute and thrive. Particularly valuable for leaders and managers supporting high-performing teams.
This in-person event is FREE to attend but places are limited, so booking is essential.
