The government has recently set up a new Ethics & Integrity Commission in response to the perceived challenges to standards in public life. One of its first actions was to commission Dr Rebecca Dobson Phillips from the University of Sussex's Centre for the Study of Corruption to map the UK's standards landscape. This analyses the multiple bodies that exist to safeguard integrity standards across the public sector, from parliamentary standards committees to the social care ombudsman and judicial appointments. Her report has just been published by the EIC to great acclaim, and is expected to provide the foundation for the new body to plan its work.
