The Sussex Mental Health Research (SuMHeR) Centre celebrated an exciting milestone with its official launch on Tuesday, 12 March 2025, at the University of Sussex. The event ran from 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM in the Gallery Room, Bramber House, and brought together academics from the School of Psychology, BSMS, and across the university, alongside NHS clinicians and community organisations with an interest in mental health research.
Attendees had the opportunity to network over posters and refreshments, hear about research and funding plans, and explore opportunities for collaboration across disciplines and settings. Talks featured research leads and experts in mental health strategy, organisation, and policy, highlighting priorities for early career and established researchers, local funding opportunities, and regional initiatives.
The SuMHeR Centre, based in the School of Psychology, aims to advance mental health research through interdisciplinary approaches, focusing on areas such as psychosis, mood and anxiety disorders, OCD, neurodivergence, adolescent mental health, and dementia. The Centre is committed to addressing critical challenges including early intervention, prevention, and mental health inequalities, working closely with partners such as Brighton and Sussex Medical School, Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, and the Clinical Imaging Sciences Centre, as well as regional and national collaborators.
