New Health and Wellbeing Centre: final works underway

Last updated: Thursday, 20 November 2025
The scaffolding is coming down, utilities are being connected, and the inside of the building is now being decorated. Over the next few months, work will focus on finishing the building and improving the area around it with new paths, parking spaces and better links to existing routes.
What you might notice on campus
If you’re around the Student Centre, you’ll see some changes as the outside area takes shape. From Monday 24 November until March 2026, key activity includes:
- The hoarding around the site will be removed and replaced with temporary fencing.
- Contractors will be working Monday to Friday (8am to 6pm) and some Saturdays (8am to 1pm).
- Old pavements and parts of the road will be replaced with new access routes. Some noise is expected, but we’re working to keep disruption to a minimum.
Temporary changes on Refectory Road
Refectory Road will stay open, but there will be some adjustments while works continue:
- Cars: The road will be narrowed slightly and the speed limit will drop to 10mph.
- Cyclists: A short part of the cycle lane near the Student Centre will close, and cyclists will need to walk with their bike for this section.
- Pedestrians: A step-free diversion will direct pedestrians to the Student Centre side of the road.
- Buses: The Bramber House bus stop will stay open but will move slightly down the road.
