The Sussex Community Development Association (SCDA) is seeking a volunteer from the University of Sussex to join its Board of Trustees.
About SCDA
SCDA is a community development charity serving some of East Sussex's most deprived areas. The organisation focuses on relieving poverty through targeted programmes in employment, housing, health and wellbeing, food security, inclusion and the environment. SCDA runs a nursery, charity retail shops and social enterprise spaces across the region. The charity is expanding its board to support its next phase of growth.
About being a trustee
SCDA seeks trustees who can contribute strategic expertise and insight while enabling and, where necessary, challenging operational delivery. The charity has a committed existing board and welcomes additional skills in areas such as financial oversight, legal matters, HR, and programme management.
The commitment will include:
- Four Board meetings per year (typically Saturday mornings in Newhaven, lasting around 3 hours)
- Participation in online sub-group meetings between formal Board meetings (approximately 1 hour per session)
There is no financial remuneration for this role, but it will provide valuable opportunities to develop skills in strategic decision-making and governance.
As a reminder, Sussex staff have an allowance of two days per year available to volunteer with a charity of your choice.
Applications can be made via the SDCA website, and there are contacts listed on the website who will arrange an informal conversation in advance of making applications.
