Significant electrical works are taking place on campus on Sunday 14 September, as we connect the new West Ring Main – the high voltage cable that will power West Slope – to the main campus substation.
When is it happening?
On Sunday 14 September, the new West Ring Main will be connected to the main campus substation. This is a significant piece of work as the main campus substation is a critical point in our campus power network, powering many campus buildings.
The works are not expected to necessitate a power shutdown, however, if unexpected problems occur, a power outage will be required to ensure that the work can be completed safely.
Estates colleagues will be supervising the electrical work and electrical engineers will be performing the work.
What will happen?
A power outage will switch off power to all impacted buildings and their surrounding areas. This includes:
- Plug sockets
- Lights (indoor and outdoor)
- Lifts
- Wifi
- Air conditioning / Heating
What do I need to do?
In advance of the electrical works, please take the following good housekeeping actions as a precaution:
- Switch off lights
- Unplug / switch off computers and other electrical equipment
- Ensure valuable items are locked away
- Save any work
- Charge any phones and laptops etc before 6am if you are on campus
After the electrical works
If you experience any issues with power on your return to campus, please contact the following:
- Estates Helpdesk for issues with buildings and services
- IT Service Desk for IT equipment or service queries
