The University of Sussex has been ranked between 101 – 200 of universities across the world, in the Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings for 2025, published today,18 June.
The rankings identify and celebrate universities from 130 countries and territories that excel across multiple United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As well as maintaining our top 200 position, this year the University ranks in the top 5% for SDG 1 – No Poverty, top 7% for SDG16 – Peace, Justice and Strong institutions, and top 8% for SDG 11- Sustainable Cities and Communities. SDG12 – Responsible Consumption and Production has also improved compared to last year and is also in the top 100 globally.
This is the seventh year of the rankings and the fifth year that Sussex has taken part. The number of participating universities continues to grow, with 2,318 ranked this year. We are continually progressing towards improving our contribution to the SDGs, and you can see a full report on our website.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Sasha Roseneil said: “Sustainability has long been a hugely important theme of research and teaching at Sussex. In an increasingly competitive league table, it is gratifying to have four SDGs in the top 10%, with our position on the No Poverty indicator at 63 out of 1,267 institutions worldwide. We aspire to be one of the most sustainable and biodiverse universities in the world and our ambition for environmental sustainability and human flourishing is at the very core of our new Sussex 2035 strategy, which will be launched in the autumn. I have no doubt that the actions we are taking now and planning for the future will help us fulfil that ambition.”
