Professor Claire Smith, Professor of Anatomy at BSMS and Deputy Pro Vice Chancellor (Education and Innovation) at the University of Sussex, was invited to attend the Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace on 14 May in recognition of her outstanding contributions to teaching and education.
The event was attended by King Charles III and had a special focus on education and skills. The invitation marks a significant honour, celebrating Claire’s impact on medical education both at BSMS and nationally.
Reflecting on the experience, Claire said: “I was honoured to have been put forward to attend the Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace. It was a day of gratitude and reflection on my journey.”
Prof Smith has had several notable achievements since joining BSMS in 2013, including being the first in the UK to begin printing 3D anatomy body parts for students scanned from a donated human cadaver and playing a leading role in the award-winning 2022 documentary, My Dead Body.
