Sussex Professor ranked top 20 in UK for political science

Professor Peter Newell from the International Relations department in the School of Global Studies has been ranked 19th in the UK and 108 in the world in the field of political science by Research.com in their Best Scientist for 2023 ranking.
Professor Newell, who specialises in the politics and political economy of energy and climate change, is also ranked 3rd in the UK among international relations scholars.
Research.com features a list of best scientists ranked by established metrics and number of citations which are compiled from various bibliometric data sources.
Professor Newell sits on the editorial board of the journals Global Environmental Politics, the Journal of Peasant Studies and Earth Systems Governance.
Besides his academic work, he has undertaken commissioned research and policy work for the governments of the UK, India, Ireland, Sweden and Finland, for international organisations such as the United Nations Development Programme and Global Environment Facility, UNCTAD and sat on the board of directors of Greenpeace UK and the Brussels based Carbon Market Watch.
