Professor Geert De Neve
Following Professor Elizabeth Harrison’s decision to step down as Head of the School of Global Studies, Professor Geert De Neve has been appointed as her successor for an initial period of two years. His new role will start on 1 September.
Currently Professor of Social Anthropology and South Asian Studies, Professor De Neve has been at Sussex since 1998 and brings a very impressive academic record to the Head of School role. The appointing panel was unanimous in its support for Geert’s appointment and our Vice-Chancellor, Sasha Roseneil, is confident that he will continue Professor Harrison’s excellent work in Global Studies.
Sasha said: “The School of Global Studies is a truly outstanding locale for research and education in anthropology, geography, international relations, and international development, and I am delighted that Geert will be Global’s next Head of School. It has been a huge pleasure to work with Buzz, who has led the School with great energy and collegiality, and enormous success, over the past five years, and I look forward to working with Geert, who brings a wealth of experience to the role. The work of Global Studies is key to the international mission and purpose of Sussex, and I am sure that the School will continue to flourish with Geert at the helm.”
Geert said: “I am very pleased to have been appointed as Head of the School of Global Studies. Whilst recognising that Professor Harrison will be a hard act to follow, I am very much looking forward to taking up my new role in September and carrying on the fabulous work that she and my colleagues across the School have been involved with. Together we will push the boundaries of Global Studies to provide an outstanding education to our students and address the pressing issues of our time.”
