Sue Angulatta, the University’s Director of Research and Enterprise, will be leaving the institution at the end of April.
Sue has been at Sussex since January 2019 and leads the Research and Enterprise Division, providing the following research, innovation and knowledge exchange services: Research Staff Office, Research Development & Initiatives, Research Finance, Research Contracts, Research Quality & Impact, Research Ethics, Governance & Integrity, Research Information services, and Business Partnerships, Consultancy, IP & Commercialisation.
Sue has led a number of major projects since joining Sussex from the University of Surrey. Alongside the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Enterprise), she oversaw the University’s submission to the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF). She is also leading on the new research management system to replace ageing systems, led on developing an updated structure for Research and Enterprise Division as part of 1PS and, through the support of her team, ensured excellent levels of support were maintained for academics throughout the challenges of the pandemic.
Tim Westlake, Chief Operating Officer, said: “Sue has provided exceptionally strong leadership for research and enterprise over three years she has been at Sussex. She will be a tough act to follow and I will be very sad to see her go.”
Keith Jones, PVC for Research and Enterprise, said: “Sue has been a fantastic colleague and a great support to me since I joined Sussex last autumn. Her exceptional leadership and wise counsel have steered the University through some challenging waters and she will leave her division in a very strong place for the future. I’m sure colleagues will join me in wishing her all the best.”
Sue Angulatta said: “I have had a wonderful three years at Sussex. I have worked with fantastic colleagues across both Professional Services and Schools, and am particularly proud of my colleagues in Research and Enterprise Division and what they have achieved over this period. I know that Sussex research and knowledge exchange will go from strength to strength and will keep a watchful eye on new developments.”
Sue will remain in post until the end of April, after which Emma Potts, currently interim Deputy Chief Operating Officer, will take on interim leadership of the Research and Enterprise Division until a permanent replacement is appointed.
