As part of our commitment to sustainability, we lauched the Film for COP26 competition. The winners will receive cash prizes (£750 for 1st place, £500 for 2nd, and £250 for 3rd) and support to help promote their videos to a wider audience.
 
The awards ceremony will take place on Monday 1 November coinciding with the start of COP26, the most important global conference on tackling climate change to date.
 
To take part, you need to create a video of no more than 60 seconds in length that can be used to do one or more of the following:
 

• influence delegates at the COP26 Summit
• change attitudes towards climate change
• promote young people’s and/or student voices on the climate crisis.

 
The winning videos will be promoted on our social media channels, so please consider the format of your preferred channel before filming: 1:1 format (for Twitter, Facebook or Instagram) or a vertical video (for channels like Instagram Reels and TikTok).

The deadline for submission is 10am on Thursday 21 October.
 
A panel of communications and sustainability experts including environmental activists Ella Daish and Katie Proctor (@Sustainable_Squad) will shortlist the twelve best films. The selected films will be streamed live at 5.15pm on Monday 1 November in the Terrace Room of the Conference Centre in Bramber House. The event will be hosted by Prof Kelly Coate, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Education and Students.
 
Kelly Coate, Pro Vice Chancellor for Education and Students said: “This film competition gives Sussex students a fantastic opportunity to ask global leaders to tackle the climate emergency – and forms part of our Countdown to COP26 activities.
 
“I encourage as many students as possible to get involved. As well as the chance to win a cash prize, if your film goes viral it could reach across the world and even be noticed by global leaders.”
 
Students are invited to attend a special screening event where they will vote for their favourite videos during the live ceremony – with first, second and third prizes announced at the end of the screening.
