One World Week 2019, organised by International Student Support and the Students' Union, will run from 18-22 March.
This year’s Sussexsport One World Week programme promises to be an interesting one. As well as Active US’ now regular Holi Run (think colour run with a difference), and the Men and Women’s Indoor Premier League (IPL) cricket tournaments, the wider Sussexsport department is organising an exhibition of international student photographs.
The pictures will be accompanied by quotes from students, about sport. The hope is to show the diversity in sport across the world, as well as to capture the universal language which people use when they talk about sport.
The last time the department coordinated a big campaign like this, they produced an A0-size poster map with quotes and pictures from running and sport enthusiasts from around the globe. It now hangs proudly on the stairwell in the Sport Centre.
The new images and accompanying quotes are scheduled to be released in time for One World Week in March. They will be displayed around the campus during the week 18-22 March and in the Sport Centre and Falmer Sports Complex beyond that.
All international students are welcome to take part, especially if they have an interest in sport. Participants will be asked to provide a quote about what sport means to them and have their picture taken by a professional photographer. In exchange for their time, students will receive a £10 Amazon voucher and a copy of the photograph. Photographs will be taken on and around 26–27 February in the Sport Centre.
Several people have already signed up, so students are encouraged to get in touch sooner rather than later.
