Bodyscape

‘Bodyscape’ is a subjective and voyeuristic viewing of the female body, which seeks to test habitual notions of the human body by pushing the boundaries of how it can be perceived and photographed. Abstract and perhaps even surreal, ‘Bodyscape’ transforms the body making parts of the human anatomy not instantly identifiable. The images gain an almost ethereal and alien appearance through the juxtaposition of stark shadows with the exaggerated warm hues and tones given off by the skin. Ambiguity is created through intricate framing and composition, by posing the body in intriguing and intangible ways.

By adopting a more abstract photographic style and various compositional and lighting techniques, sections of the body become ambiguous. This allows the audience to question and rethink the female anatomy and conventional ways of viewing it. As for an appropriate viewing outlet, I believe that my project would be best suited to a gallery exhibition, and therefore the best audience would be an open minded gallery audience.
