Contaminated Beauty

By: Leah Bacon

Contaminated Beauty is about the waste and pollution that is created by all citizens due to the consumer culture of our society. The images highlight the extent of the rubbish that people produce and have been constructed to look beautiful to reflect the way in which consumers are seduced into buying commodities by the beauty of advertising and packaging.

Environmental issues, such as global warming, are so important as they have an impact on the entire planet and I want to stress this through my images and make people aware that it is their ignorance of their lifestyles that is causing so much damage. My main influences and inspirations have come from the work of photographers Keith Arnatt, Ron O’Donnell, Andreas Gursky and Peter Kennard and the art movements impressionism, surrealism and cubism. The potential outlet for my work could be websites, leaflets and posters for campaigning organisations.
