Secret Lives: Cats and Dogs (Computer Animation)

By: Robert Somerville

The harsh truth on what our beloved pets get up to whilst their owners are away! Follow two small groups of history’s most bitter rivals; cats and dogs, on one day of their lives, showing what really happens in the houses and on the streets when they are no longer under the supervision of their owners. ‘Secret lives’ is an epic, 2 minute animation that transcends multiple genres, such as action, comedy and romance, to provide a simple story well told for the whole family. This piece is stylistically influenced by Japanese animation, and artistically influenced by the ‘Pencil sketch’ art style made famous by the animator Michael Patterson with his work such as the short animation ‘Commuter’, and the music video ‘Take on Me’ by Norwegian band ‘A-Ha’. Drawing inspiration from Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’, to the classic cartoon ‘Dexter’s Laboratory’, ‘Secret Lives: Cats and Dogs’ will have you on the edge of your seat!
