Perfect Cravings

Pollock (1990) says that we “have become accustomed to the cutting up of specifically feminine bodies.” In western patriarchal society, popular culture perpetuates a fascination with the feminine ideal. Women are defined by their appearance and “Perfect Cravings” demonstrates how women can use this imagery in a self destructive way.

Although inspired by Anorexic’s decorated bedrooms, “Perfect Cravings” remains relevant to all women who have an understanding of the pressure to be perfect.

Women are represented in fragmentary and disjointed ways and are taught to view themselves as an image. This series acknowledges this reality and provokes debate about the way that women are encouraged to see themselves. Ultimately, women learn to crave perfection in a society that scrutinises and criticises the natural female form.
