‘Skin Deep’ sets out to challenge the way we look at aging women and show that in fact beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It seems that in today’s society many women are obsessed with looking more youthful.

I believe that my photographs reveal a different way of looking at skin, especially older skin and hope that they challenge the idea that only youthful skin is beautiful. Although my photographs do not follow the traditional conventions of what beauty is seen as, I hope that people can understand that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

My main influence for my photographs was the Japanese photographer Manabu Yamanaka who photographed old Japanese women in the series ‘Gyahtei’ (1999) along with Rosy Martin who produced the series ‘Outrageous Agers.’
