Off The Leash

My project explores the relationship between dogs and their owners across different demographics.

I drew on Martin Parr's ‘June Street’ series of families in their living rooms as inspiration. His aim was to look at “how we live, how we present ourselves to others and what we value”. I attempted to do this in my photographs. I was also inspired by Diane Arbus’s work.

By photographing dogs and their owners at home I hoped to reveal something of their lives, shed light on the variety of reasons people keep dogs as pets and the binding relationships they share with them.

My photographs invite the audience in by appealing to the voyeuristic side of human nature - the fly on the wall part of us that likes to take a peek at how other people live without them knowing.
