International Business

Teaching

At the University of Sussex we offer an International Business undergraduate degree and two related Masters degrees. Many of our members are involved in teaching and also offer PhD supervision.

International Business BSc (Hons)

This course focuses on various elements of corporate strategy in the context of intense competition among multinational enterprises. You learn to sharpen your ability to explain varying business systems and models, to apply qualitative and quantitative tools, and to address political, regulatory, and cultural issues in both the emerging and developed markets around the globe.

A key innovation of this course is the opportunity to develop cultural awareness, together with a sensitivity to diversity, by focusing on the value of cross-cultural teamwork in the classroom. Through your choice of electives, you also have the opportunity to pursue the study of modern languages, commonly used in international business contexts, such as Arabic, Japanese and Mandarin Chinese.

This International Business degree is also available with a professional placement year.

International Management MSc

This MSc is aimed at students intending to pursue a career working in an international enterprise, and those who wish to understand the complexities of doing business in the contemporary global business environment.

The course adopts a broad perspective, looking at the business systems in place in different countries, how globalisation and integration are shaping the competitive environment, why and how firms engage in foreign trade and investment, and at various issues concerned with the strategy and management of international enterprises.

This MSc also introduces you to certain key functional areas of international management: marketing, finance, and entrepreneurship. A distinctive feature of the course is the choice of options focusing on issues of particular importance in selected regions of the world such as Europe, East Asia, and emerging economies.
