The University of Sussex is pleased to have been asked to carry out consultations with carers to ensure that their views are at the heart of the development of the new College of Social Work. The comments and experiences of carers who take part will be used to help form this new national college.
The consultation is open to all carers living in England. We are particularly eager to reach carers who identify themselves with the following groups:
The consultation process is underway and will run through September and October 2010.
Carers' involvement is invited in one of three ways:

By completing a questionnaire about their experiences and views.
NOTE: All participants will be entered into a prize draw for £50 worth of vouchers from a recognised retail outlet.

By registering for and attending a live consultation event:
Lincoln Tuesday 21st September Bury St Edmunds Tuesday 28th September London Wednesday 6th October Farnborough Wednesday 13th October
Participants will be given details of the relevant venue after registering to attend a live event.
Consultations will run from 10.45am - 3.30pm and lunch will be provided.
NOTE: Participants can have their expenses reimbursed - including the cost of replacement care for the carer's absence if necessary - and will be offered a fee for their contribution. -
By registering to join a live internet consultation, supported by Carers World Radio, via Skype that will run in three parts on three separate dates:
Monday 11th October: 7.30 - 8.30pm
Tuesday 12th October: 7.30 - 8.30pm
Wednesday 13th October: 7.30 - 8.30pm
NOTE: The consultation has ethical approval through the University of Sussex research ethics approval process.
Carers’ comments are recorded anonymously and all participants will be told how to access a copy of the final report. Participants will also be able to track how the college uses the report's findings via The College of Social Work website.
