Teaching and assessment for MA taught courses

Course structure

For full-time students, MA taught courses in English fall into the pattern of two modules taken in each of the autumn and spring termsfollowed by supervised independent writing of a dissertation, submitted at the end of summer. Part-time students take one module each in the autumn and spring terms over two years, begin background reading and research during the first summer and complete writing the dissertation during the second summer. Modules are taught in two-hour weekly seminars.

Generally, modules are assessed by a 5000 word essay. The final dissertation is 15000 words.
