Disability support

Sussexsport offer two bursaries of £500 every year to provide students with a disability access to our fitness rooms and 1-2-1 supervision from a qualified fitness instructor. This is supported by the Sussex Fund and the University of Sussex Alumni Team.

If you are interested in this support, please contact Terry Cooper, Deputy Head Operations, Fitness and Performance, E t.cooper@sussex.ac.uk or T 01273 678345.

We also offer a free advice and signposting service for prospective or registered students who have a disability or diagnosed long term health problem.

Students will meet with Terry to discuss their individual needs, requirements and interests. Potential areas of discussion and advice can include:

  • the most appropriate Sussexsport membership option
  • available fitness advice, guidance and support
  • casual sporting opportunities, including Active US
  • our classes and courses programme
  • club sport (including outdoor pursuits, martial arts and the British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS) offer)
  • elite sport - the Sports Scholarship Scheme

You can use the website Disabledgo to find out how to access our buildings if, for instance, you are using a wheelchair or walking aid. Access information for the Sport Centre and Falmer Sports Complex is available from their site, but please contact us with any queries you may have.
