Useful resources

When to find properties:

  • There is no need to rush.  Most returning students begin their search between January and May for the following September.
  • Do not be pushed.  Take your time. 

Where to find properties:

  •  Yourstudentpad database of properties - database of whole properties and rooms managed by the University - Landlords sign up to a Code of Standards, which exceed minimum standards.  This means that if you experience any problems, you can report to the Housing Office who will investigate.  No fees for students or Landlords. Properties for September 2013 are advertised now.
  • Download our list of local letting agents (Word, 34KB) - includes charges (coming soon) and student feedback expressed via the Students' Union annual Rate Your Landlord Survey.
  • Join Sussex University House Hunt on Facebook - managed by the Housing Office - a great way to contact other Sussex students to search together, along with students posting advert's for spare rooms, with advice and guidance and messages answered.
  • Visit the Housing Office, Bramber House - chat with the team, along with advert's from students on display.
  • Visit our detailed Where to look pages - includes interactive maps, advice and useful short film about tenancy agreements.
  • Participate in the annual Housing Talk workshops - partnership between the Students' Union and Housing Office.
  • Participate in the Housing Fair - managed by the Housing Office, partners in the community are on hand to give advice.
  • Students' Union Sussex Student Lettings Agency - no fees for students.
  • Take care when using property search sites - check with the Housing Office for advice before you pay any money or sign a tenancy agreement.

How to view properties:

  • View several properties to compare.
  • Walk arond the area, check out local shops and public transport.

You are welcome to seek any other advice from the University Housing Office, or the Sussex Students' Union Advice and Representation Centre, who are able to provide case-work and advocay upon request.
