Application of Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology

We are excited by the potential opportunities offered by nanomaterials. We are exploring the application of nanomaterials in three main aspects: 1) in Environment Chemistry, 2) in Green Energy and 3) in Biotechnology. image5

In collaboration with PpTek Ltd, we are developing nanofibres with variety of photoactive components for photocatalytic treatment of environment. We prefer fibril materials instead of particular powders is due to its practical advantage of mechanical strength without sacrificing the total surface area too much. Flat-bed photo reactors have been designed in order to balance the light exposure/absorption and gas flow, gas-solid surface contact.

Our nanomaterials are essentially a porous structured with large surface area per volume. When they are made of metal oxide semiconductors, such as ZnO, TiO2 and other transition metal oxides, we have constructed solar cells and photo anode for water splitting. We are optimize conditions including improving light absorption, charge separation, charge mobility and band edge alignment. The ultimate goal is to create low cost, effective and long lasting photoactive materials and structures for artificial photo synthesis for harvesting solar energy.

By developing biocompatible nano structures, we aim to expand our research interests into the application in medicinal technology. We design biofunctional nano bottles for targeted, controlled drug delivery. Fiber of biocompatible polymers are created for both the controlled drug delivery and cell growth. We are seeking external collaboration with both industry and academic partners.
