Research

The faculty in Art History have an international reputation for our research. We were rated in the top 3 in the UK in the most recent Research Assessment Exercise. We are ranked 2nd in the UK in 4* world-leading research. The RAE found that 100% of our research activity in Art History is rated as being world-leading, internationally excellent or internationally recognised.

The faculty in Art History have an international reputation for their publications on a wide range of art objects. Currently they are working on collaborative projects and exhibitions with national and regional institutions including: the V&A, Tate, National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery, National Maritime Museum, British Library, Charleston Trust, Royal Pavilion and Brighton Museum and Art Gallery. The faculty also have held key positions in arts and heritage organisations, Professor Howard is presently Director of the Society of Antiquaries.
