Whether you come for a whole year or just a term, you can choose from a wide selection of modules, and tailor your choices to whatever you need to progress to the next year of study at home.
Our academic calendar
The University year at Sussex begins in mid September. Each academic year consists of two terms: autumn (September to January), spring (January to April) plus the summer term when year-end examinations take place. Each term is followed by an assessment period. There is no teaching during the summer term; because of this, you cannot spend only the summer term here.
As a visiting and exchange student you will be taught alongside British and international students taking full degree courses.
Study periods
A number of study periods are available:
International Summer School
You can study with other international students at Sussex in late June through August. 15 or 30 credits
Full academic year
The full academic year consists of the autumn, spring and summer terms. If you are studying here for a full-year you are more likely to be allocated your chosen modules, and have a wider range of accommodation choices. 120 credits
Autumn term
You can take the autumn term alone as the perfect start to your academic year. 60 credits
Spring term
You can study with us during the spring term and experience Sussex in the spring. Your modules will be assessed during the summer term so you must stay for both the spring and summer terms. 60 credits
