Autumn teaching
This module introduces you to the principles, methodologies and techniques of the best practice known in the Engineering and Product Design disciplines as 'Design for Manufacture.' Through this module, you will gain exposure to concepts of industrial engineering, operations management, materials and processes, product design, quality control, and sustainability.
In addition, you will gain an understanding of how these factors have an impact on the manufacturing feasibility of a product. Topics covered include: tolerancing, process capability, production types, product design specification, rapid manufacturing, industrial standards, sustainable design, technical drawing, cost estimation, and project planning.

Contact hours and workload
This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 34 hours of contact time and about 116 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
