Autumn teaching
This module aims to introduce you to the mathematical methods and techniques commonly used in business, finance and economics and other social sciences. In this Autumn Term module, you will develop confidence in reading and using simple mathematical terms, formulae and expressions.
There will be a strong emphasis on practical applications to real-world issues, such as looking at economic, business and finance data and applying ideas such as discount rates to investment decisions.
The skills developed in this module will also be transferable for use in other disciplines outside business and the social sciences, as well as in everyday life.

Contact hours and workload
This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 33 hours of contact time and about 117 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
