Film Festival Studies (894P4)

30 credits, Level 7 (Masters)

Autumn teaching

This module introduces you to the study of film festivals, a recent subfield in film studies. It will provide you with an overview of conceptual and methodological issues associated with this subfield, potentially including:

  • the history of film festivals
  • film festival typologies and organisation
  • film festival programming
  • film festivals as public events
  • film festivals and the cultural economy.

The module will use CineCity, Brighton’s oldest film festival, as a live case study. As part of the module, you’ll have the opportunity to hear from the festival’s manager and programmers, attend screenings and volunteer at the event.

However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
