Journalism Project (010P3)

This independent study module involves the completion of a critical journalism project on a topic of your choice. The module offers you the chance to work independently with guidance and advice from an appropriate tutor appointed as a project supervisor.

You are expected to demonstrate how your ideas and knowledge have developed over the year and how these ideas inform your professional work experience. You will develop a portfolio of your journalism and reflect on this process in the associated learning diary and essay.

Assessment

10%: Coursework (Report)
60%: Practical (Portfolio)
30%: Written assessment (Essay)

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 600 hours of work. This breaks down into about 600 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2024/25. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
