Grounds and Biodiversity

The University of Sussex has the unique privilege of being situated amongst the Sussex Downs, and with the efforts of our dedicated and hard-working Grounds team, Falmer campus is overall an exceptionally green and diverse environment.

As of summer 2017, the University of Sussex campus has been presented with a Green Flag Award for its natural style and high-quality maintenance, largely due to the amazing efforts of the Grounds team. This certifies Falmer campus as a designated green area recognising the hard/ongoing works to maintain and enhance our natural environment.

Tree Planting

To maintain the dense and natural treelines and flora that populate much of Falmer campus, various tree planting projects are often undertaken by SEF and the University. This has included a tree planting project by the entrance to Falmer train station, a wind break along the pathway along the north section of the campus boundary, as well as multiple completed and upcoming sessions to plant trees along naturally occurring treelines across campus.
