Visiting Research Fellows

Sussex Centre for Cultural Studies (SCCS) is open to national and international visitors to engage with our core research activities and the intellectual life of our interdisciplinary research centre. Visiting Fellows participate in the Centre's activities, usually proposing a specific contribution, such as a seminar, workshop, research proposal, working paper, or other agreed activity. Visitors must be sponsored by an existing member of Sussex Centre of Cultural Studies. Visitor and Sponsor should agree the visitor's contribution to the Centre in advance of the visit.

Appointments as a Visiting Fellow can be made for periods of 1 month to 3 years.  If the Fellow is from outside the UK then certain visa guidelines may apply depending on the length of the visit (information on academic visitor visas can be found on the UKVI website).

A bench fee of £1,000 per term or £350 per month is charged for Visiting Fellowships, to cover costs of administration, access to office space, computing, library and sporting facilities. Fee waivers can be requested but will normally only be granted if the Fellow is contributing substantially to undergraduate or postgraduate teaching. If the Visitor is not in a position to pay the bench fees, SCCS will explore offsetting the cost to the Visitor, although this is not always financially possible.

Applications are reviewed by the SCCS core committee and approved by the Dean/Head of the relevant host School. If you have any questions, please contact SCCS co-Directors in the first instance.
