Mathematics undertakes research which is rated as world-leading, according to the latest national assessment of research quality.
Mathematics achieved a strong result in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), placing it in the top 26 in the subject nationally. 90% of our research activity was rated as world-leading, internationally excellent or internationally recognised.
The quality of research publications in Applied Mathematics at Sussex was ranked in 9th place, confirming the high standard of research carried out in the Department of Mathematics.
Overall the University of Sussex has over 90% of its research rated as internationally recognised or better, and was ranked overall in the top 30 institutions in the UK
