We have students from all over the world, and we know that coming to study in the UK is an exciting experience, with opportunities to broaden your academic, social and cultural horizons. Your accommodation is a very important part of your life here at Sussex – when you are comfortable with your living environment, you can succeed in your studies with us.
September to June
Students attending the full-time (Intensive English and Pre-Masters) courses between September and June may only have homestay accommodation (subject to availability).
Homestay
Most of our homestay hosts live in Brighton & Hove, but there are also some hosts in Lewes. You will have a single room, and the host will provide breakfast and an evening meal 7 days a week plus snack lunches at the weekends. As the University campus is just outside Brighton you will have a short bus or train ride morning and afternoon. There are direct bus and train services to the campus from central Brighton and from Lewes. Homestay accommodation offers you the opportunity to improve your English in a 'home' situation. You can read more in our information for students staying with homestay hosts.
We also have a limited number of spaces in independent housing in Brighton. These are self catering bedrooms in well equiped private houses which include facilities such as wifi, bicicycle storage, television etc. These are single rooms with shared bathrooms, kitchen and living room.
Summer vacation (July to September)
Students attending summer programmes at the Sussex Centre for Language Studies can choose homestay or campus (residential) accommodation.
Campus
All accommodation is in single rooms and is self-catering (no meals provided); there are food stores on campus and major supermarkets just a short bus ride away. You will be able to choose between Stanmer Court, Brighthelmand York House. You should note that there is a different charge for the summer vacation period and further details can be found on our accommodation price list. Please note that we cannot guarantee rooms, and that certain minimum tenancy periods apply.
In Stanmer Court all rooms are en-suite – each of the residential flats has six rooms and has a kitchen equipped with cooker, refrigerator, microwave etc. In Brighthelm and Lewes Court there are shared bathrooms - each house has either 5 or 6 bedrooms, two bathrooms and a fully equipped kitchen.
In all residences, bed linen and basic kitchen utensils are provided at no extra cost. Living on campus enables you to meet other students on other courses, and also means you can access the library and computer facilities in the evenings and at weekends.
Please indicate clearly which type of accommodation (homestay or campus) you require on the application form. If you have any questions or would like more details, please contact our Accommodation and Welfare Officer, m.a.suppel@sussex.ac.uk.
