These courses, aimed at the general public, offer the opportunity to study a language within the context of its culture on a weekly basis alongside students, postgraduates, and members of the university staff. Each class lasts for one and a half hours, either in the middle of the day or in the evening.

Courses are offered at a variety of levels in the following languages: Arabic, British Sign Language, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Mandarin, Polish, Russian and Spanish.

Courses are taught by fully qualified tutors, who are all native speakers, including some who teach on mainstream undergraduate programmes. All courses give the opportunity to progress language skills and learn about the country and customs concerned.
