A strong culture of research exists within the School, and central to this is a number of specialist Research Centres and seminar series, which host activities ranging from conferences and colloquia to professorial lectures by distinguished visiting scholars.
The following Centres exist within the School of English:
- Centre for Creative and Critical Thought
- Centre for Early Modern Studies
- Centre for Literature and Philosophy
- Centre for Modernist Studies
- Centre for the Study of Sexual Dissidence
- Centre for Visual Fields
There are also a number of seminar series hosted by the School, including:
- 18th and 19th Century Termly seminar series
- The American Studies Termly seminar series
- English Colloquium seminars
- Research on Language and Linguistics (ROLLS)
You can keep up to date with the programme of events and activities hosted within the School of English via the School events calendar.
The Research Centres in English are directed by members of faculty, but for a centre to thrive the involvement of students is also vital. We particularly encourage postgraduate Masters and research students to be affiliated with a particular Research Centre and/or seminar series, and get involved in the planning of seminars and other events.
