Pre-initial Teacher Training Physics Enhancement Course

Good Physics teachers are in short supply. However, there are many enthusiastic people with the potential to be successful Physics teachers but who are insufficiently qualified to enter immediately into teacher training. Our six month, full time pre-Initial Teacher Training (pre-ITT) Physics Enhancement Course provides that necessary subject enrichment. Our science tutors are themselves experienced teachers with a commitment to high quality training.

The Department of Education, within the School of Education and Social Work, has successfully piloted a Chemistry Enhancement Course over the past two years. It is now funded by the Training & Development Agency (TDA) to run a Physics Enhancement Course. As with the chemistry course, the Physics Enhancement Course runs in conjunction with our highly rated university Physics Department and so has the benefit of expertise in both teacher training and in the latest advances in Physics.

Please note that to be unconditionally accepted onto our Enhancement Course, you must have a confirmed offer of a place on a PGCE or GTP or SCITT programme with a recognised provider in England of initial teacher training by the time the Enhancement Course starts in January. The TDA bursary for the Enhancement Course is linked to your intention to take up an initial teacher training place, following successful completion of the Enhancement Course.

The course is free - there are no fees to be paid. Successful applicants will receive a bursary of £200 per week.
