Display Screen Equipment (DSE) and Assessments
Display Screen Equipment (DSE) Process
To ensure safe and comfortable use of display screen equipment, all employees should follow the process below:
1. Complete DSE Training
Individuals should complete the DSE training available on Learn Upon (e-learning platform).
This provides essential guidance on safe workstation setup and good ergonomic practices.
2. Complete the Self-Assessment
After finishing the training, employees are required to complete the DSE self-assessment.
This helps identify any risks, discomfort, or adjustments needed for their workstation.
3. Discuss with Line Manager
Speak to your line manager if:
- You are left with any questions
- It has identified a change needed in the equipment or furniture you are currently using
- You are aware of any health problems potentially related to your workstation.
Managers can help review the assessment and support any necessary changes. The Workplace Adjustment Toolkit is a useful resource for line managers if further adjustments are required.
4. Seek Additional Support
If further assistance or specialist advice is required, employees should contact the Health & Safety Coordinator for guidance.
Most adjusments (e.g. change of mouse or keyboard shape) can be organised locally through your School/Division. Where medical conditions or significant adjustments have been identified, you should speak to your Line Manager for an Occupational Health referral through HR.
