- Sussex Plus

Sussex Plus encourages you to develop your confidence and recognise your skills by getting involved in extracurricular, academic and student development activities, parttime work and volunteering through Project V. It helps you to reflect on your experiences, documenting what you’ve learned in an attractive multimedia webfolio – like an online CV but with so much more. You can also take part in opportunities such as the Learning to Lead intensive leadership programme with affiliation to the Institute of Leadership and Management, or be active in student media.
- Startup Sussex

If you are a budding entrepreneur interested in starting your own business or social enterprise and have ideas to solve a commerical or social problem, Startup Sussex is perfect for you. You can bid for a £2,000 prize to spend on developing your idea, get the support from entrepreneurial experts in the Sussex Innovation Centre on campus and attend creativity workshops and network with successful entrepreneurs.
- First-Generation Scholars scheme

As a First-Generation Scholar, you will be invited to attend a bespoke work-study programme of developmental workshops to build your confidence, academic study skills and employability to help you:
- develop career awareness about entering professional and career pathways
- find part-time paid work while studying
- access funded work experience/ placements and internships to help you try out your options
- explore further professional training pathways.

The University’s Careers and Employability Centre complements your academic training during your time at Sussex. Our team of career professionals can help you to enrich your student experience and develop career strategies to enhance your employability. We help you to find opportunities suited to your skills, knowledge and interests:
- help with job hunting – individual discussion and group sessions to hone your strategies for starting your career
- CV preparation and advice, and help with researching potential employers
- information on different types of work, career pathways, employers, vacancies, further training/study, reference books and various takeaway publications
- career events designed to put you in touch with employers, Sussex alumni and professionals: from workshops to help you secure that first interview, to fairs and employer talks about graduate opportunities

Many students work part time and in vacations to earn extra money. The Careers and Employability Centre advertises details of a wide range of temporary and part-time jobs each year. You can access these via Careers and Employbility Centre: Jobs.
With thriving tourism and creative digital media industries, Brighton is a good place to look for part-time work. Our students apply for jobs in shops, hotels, bars, restaurants and offices, as well as on campus.
